The purpose of the Community Consortium is to improve the quality of medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Community Consortium is an association of licensed health care providers who care for the majority of people with HIV infection in the Bay Area. We work in private practices, neighborhood clinics, community hospitals, jails and correctional systems, academic medical centers and health maintenance organizations. Our administrative base is the UCSF AIDS Program at San Francisco General Hospital.

We achieve our purpose by ensuring that primary care providers in the Bay Area have the latest information on the most effective treatments for HIV disease, by evaluating a broad range of promising treatments and treatment strategies, and by influencing public policy that directly impacts the provision of primary medical care to people with HIV infection.

We believe that all people with HIV infection should have access to the highest quality health care, and that this goal can only be achieved if there is cooperation among health care providers and people with HIV infection, and if existing resources are maximized through innovative and collaborative approaches to improving health care.
